Good Night, Bad Night

Last night was the first night that I slept in the new house. It was an exciting time, and sleep came easily after spending the day loading and unloading the moving truck. Everything was fine until I woke up at 5:30am with a sharp pain in my elbow. The surgically repaired elbow. Every couple of years I have something go on with it that severely reduces the range of motion, and introduces sharp pains with nearly every movement. It usually lasts a couple of days and then disappears as mysteriously as it appears.

The good news is that I have a legitimate excuse to be lazy this weekend. A good opportunity to catch up on the last 10 days or so of TV watching that I’ve missed out on. So if you know what happened on Lost, Alias, 24 or the Shield–keep it to yourself. I hate spoilers!!!

Shows I Shouldn’t Watch, But Will

I think I owe Reality TV an apology.

Hit Me Baby One More Time

That’s right, assembled in one place are A Flock of Seagulls, Arrested Development, Loverboy and Tiffany for a battle of the washed up stars.

Totally brilliant. Any guesses for who will be featured on future episodes? I’m thinking that Henry Lee Summer and Martika are mailing in their old cassettes to NBC right now.

Can’t Blog, Working

Too busy to blog these days, please bear with me. Instead, I’m doing things like:
Carpet Samples
trying to figure out what shade of carpet I like better.

For the record–I’d rather be blogging.

Is There Any Hope For Kermit?

Is there any chance that the Muppet Wizard of Oz movie won’t be a travesty? I’m assuming that it will be terrible, but at the same time holding out hope that it will actually be entertaining. At least the designs are good…

Kermit & Gonzo

In related news, I’ve heard rumblings that the Henson Company starting work on Dark Crystal 2. Without the involvement of Jim Henson (obviously) and Frank Oz, I can only assume this will be a mediocre direct to DVD cash grab. Why is the phrase “raping my childhood” suddenly running through my mind?

Mexican Herpes?

Ron Mexico that is. I have come to find out that a lot of people haven’t really heard about Michael Vick and his legal problems. So I am here to enlighten you. I probably shouldn’t find this funny. But I do.

From the Smoking Gun website:
APRIL 5–Claiming that Michael Vick gave her herpes, a Georgia woman is suing the star NFL quarterback for negligence and battery. According to the below lawsuit, Sonya Elliot, a 26-year-old health care worker, was infected with the sexually transmitted disease in April 2003 after an unprotected encounter with Vick at the athlete’s Duluth, Georgia home. Elliott alleges that after testing positive for Herpes Simplex 2, she confronted the Atlanta Falcons star, 24, about her condition. “I’ve got something to tell you. I’ve got it,” Vick admitted to her, according to Elliott’s State Court complaint, which alleges that Vick then told her that “he had not known how to tell her about his condition, and that it was not something that he liked to talk about.” Elliott’s complaint also contends that Vick “apologized profusely” for not telling her he was infected with the STD. Elliot’s lawsuit alleges that Vick has used the name “Ron Mexico” and, in a related court filing, her lawyers are seeking Vick’s admission that he used the “Mexico” alias–and perhaps other fake names–”for the purpose of herpes testing and/or treatment.” In her lawsuit, which does not specify monetary damages, Elliott states that she met Vick at a Virginia Beach nightclub in May 2001 and, shortly thereafter, began a close personal relationship with the football star (though the couple did not have sex until late-2002). Last December, Vick, the top overall pick in the 2001 National Football League draft, signed a ten-year, $130 million contract with the Falcons, the richest deal in league history.

So ladies, if your life just won’t be complete unless you sleep with a Vick, there is always his little brother Marcus to fall back on. Oops, maybe not…

Anyway, let us all relish the opportunity to bask in the misfortune of others:

Southern Hospitality Part II

Here is a followup to the story.

The important parts of the story follow:

The commission didn’t vote “No,” but they didn’t vote “Yes.” Instead, they voted to table the issue, saying they were concerned about the area’s sewage and traffic.

“There are no traffic issues, and this same commission, to my knowledge, approved a Jehovah Witness church a mile down the road with none of these concerns,” said Tipu Keen, Dalton Islamic Center.

Way to take a stand, County Commissioners. I’ll let you guys know if I find your backbones lying around anywhere…

Southern Hospitality

So the crazy racists in Dalton, GA don’t want those darn A-Rabs around.

I’m almost speechless. Almost. I do have a couple of specific points to address. Please don’t think that this is an attack on all of Christianity. It isn’t. It is targeted at the so-called “christians” and specifically the mindless southerners that refuse to allow themselves to have an independent thought because it might shatter their little world. It really pisses me off when these “christians” start spouting their racist manifesto. “We don’t believe in that sort of thing,” they say. What sort of thing, being born anything but white? It is all the more enraging to me because they don’t have to justify any of their opinions with any argument other than some load about believing that is what the bible tells them to think. It is just accepted that “god” and “religion” are wonderful things that are above any sort of critical observation. So if you are a racist because it is what “god” would want, that is A-OK. And bringing 911 into the mix is so ridiculous that I can hardly stand it. Lets see if we can follow this logic…a radical terrorist group from the Middle East flew some planes into some buildings and killed a bunch of people. Therefore, all Muslims are bad. OK let us now apply that logic to Timothy McVeigh. You know, the Oklahoma City Bomber? So, he blows up a Federal Building killing a bunch of people. He was a confirmed Catholic. Therefore, all Catholics are bad. Wow, this is so easy. So the next time a Catholic Church is being built in Dalton, I expect to see all of you jackasses that are protesting the Mosque at the city council meeting, OK?

Now to address some specific comments from the concerned Dalton public. Ms. LaQuita Brewster? Yes you, the fat dumb southerner without a brain. If you are frightened of being “blowed up” because you are visiting your fat dumb southern sister that lives next to the proposed site, think that if in fact these poor Georgia Muslims are a covert terrorist cell bent on destroying your perfect little southern way of life they probably wouldn’t start by BLOWING UP THEIR OWN MOSQUE! And you, Mr. Ray Hobbs. You sanctimonious hypocritical son of a bitch. “I believe in the freedom of religion, freedom of speech.” No, no you do not. You believe in YOUR freedom of religion and YOUR freedom of speech. If you believed in these things, let me see, how would that be reflected in your actions, hmmm…oh yeah, maybe you wouldn’t be trying to keep Muslims FROM PRACTICING THEIR RELIGION.

I know that I’m kind of all over the place with this, but it is really hard to boil down the hatred I have for these kinds of “christians” into rational thought. Like I keep saying, this is why I shouldn’t watch the news…

Where Oh Where Will I Get My Coffee?

I had my last visit to the Stone Cup at Hamilton Place on Sunday. They are closing that location to focus on their downtown store. I had come to really treasure my hour or two a week that I would spend there. There is just nothing more relaxing than starting your lazy Sunday with a cup of coffee (chock full of caffeine-y goodness), a book, and some idle chatter with the pierced hippie girls that work there. But those days are now over. My weekend morning choices are down to Panara (eh), Starbucks (too busy, overpriced), and all the other restaurants serving Folgers or whatever. I guess I could drive downtown but it is about a 30 min drive, which is a long ways to go even for good coffee.

I’m sad.

Get a FREE iPod!

For me, this doesn’t mean using one of those online “offers” to email and annoy your friends while never actually achieve your goal. It means that AMD once again has taken care of me and made me the winner of one of their contests. So I am now the proud owner of this:

iPod Box

It is the HP version of the G4 40gb model. I would have never bought one on my own, because they are just too damn expensive, but now that I have one I must admit that it pretty much rules. I own approximately 300 CD’s, that when ripped add up to about 20gb. So I’ve got about half of the space left. I guess that means that I’ll have to disregard their suggestion:

Don't Steal!

*Gasp* I would NEVER dream of it.

Don’t cry for my poor Rio. It will still get used for outdoor activities since it is lighter and flash based. But for day to day use, it will definitely be pushed aside for the iPod. I can’t believe I actually own an Apple device…
